Apple orchards in the Almaty region have been put up for auction. Agrofirm NurAgro LLP announced the sale with a starting price of 10.07 billion tenge (approximately $19.39 million), listing the lot on the e-Qazyna website.
The company is owned by the National Food Contract Corporation, which is fully controlled by the Ministry of Agriculture. Along with the orchards, the sale includes a Mitsubishi Pajero, agricultural equipment, and a vegetable storage facility. The total land area is 1,460 hectares. The auction, scheduled to begin on January 28, will follow a price reduction format.
In 2022, the corporation had already sought investors for an orchard consortium.
Last autumn, orchard owners in Almaty appealed to President Tokayev for support after the Prosecutor's Office filed a lawsuit to revoke land ownership rights.
The Ministry of Agriculture previously pledged to restore Kazakhstan's apple market by 2024 and even launched a program to revive the famous Almaty Aport apples.
