Agricultural enterprises in the Vinnytsia region, Ukraine, plan to double potato production and increase overall vegetable cultivation by 20% in 2025, according to the Vinnytsia Regional Military Administration (OVA).
The expansion is driven by limited vegetable supply from southern Ukraine, leading to a 2.5-fold increase in vegetable planting compared to pre-war levels. This trend continues, with further growth in industrial vegetable farming expected in the upcoming harvest season.
For the 2025 harvest, vegetables and potatoes will account for 8% of total cultivated land across all farms. In numbers:
- Vegetables: 23,600 hectares
- Potatoes: 105,100 hectares.
Vinnytsia stands out as 99% of its potatoes and vegetables are grown on household farms. Industrial vegetable farming will cover approximately 300 hectares, while industrial potato cultivation is expected to reach 320 hectares.
In recent years, the region has expanded onion, tomato, and melon farming, and in 2023, it introduced industrial pepper and eggplant production. In 2024, vegetable cultivation was structured as follows:
- Onions – 16%
- Carrots – 11%
- Beets – 10%
- Cabbage – 11%
- Tomatoes – 12%
