North Dakota considers rhubarb as official state vegetable after House approval

In North Dakota, rhubarb is under consideration as the official state vegetable. Representative Matthew Heilman of District 7 introduced this legislative proposal following a suggestion from constituents. A homeschooling family identified the absence of an official state vegetable and proposed rhubarb as a suitable candidate.

Representative Heilman supported the proposal, stating, "Rhubarb is a great choice for a state vegetable, and I say this because rhubarb is incredibly resilient and can withstand extreme colds, just like all North Dakotans."

The proposal successfully passed the House with an 81 to 11 vote and was subsequently presented to the Senate on February 20.
