Peach season has entered the blossom phase, creating a wonderful scene in the plain of Naoussa, the most important peach-growing region of Greece. "The market tide has changed favorably for peaches. After many years of cultivation decline and mass uprooting, peach trees were among the most planted deciduous fruit trees in Greece for the 2025 season," stresses Mrs. Soula Serdari, sales director of AC Naoussa, one of the most important Greek cooperatives that specializes in peaches.
"I believe that those of us who insisted on the classic peach are rewarded for their choice. Nectarines have already been planted in sufficient quantities, and there is no need for more. On the contrary, the decline in peach cultivation affects the supply-demand balance and prices. I believe that peaches will remain a product in demand for the next five years," the executive of the Greek cooperative says.
"The last marketing season was a brilliant example of this change in the market tide," emphasizes Mrs. Serdari. As she explains: "There were enough nectarines to meet demand, but peach production was reduced due to the consecutive uprootings of past years, and demand could not be fully met. There was particular demand for peaches from Poland and Greece, especially through the tourism channel. In general, whatever was of good quality was paid for, and producers made money."
AC Naoussa has its own brand, Naougusta, to differentiate its peaches in the market. "Regarding Naougusta, there is stable demand every year, and it is recognized by the market as a brand of consistent value and quality. They only ask us for peaches under this brand. Naoufruta is our brand that covers a broader range of fruits that are exported to many markets, so the situation differs by market. For example, in Germany and Greece, they request fruits under the Naoufruta brand, and in Egypt, they specifically request our branded apples. On the other hand, there are markets in Poland that prefer fruits without branding."
Finally, it seems that the new season will be marked by good production of peaches and all types of stone fruit. "The accumulation of chill hours is going perfectly, and since we have snow in the mountainous areas as well, it means we will have sufficient water. So far, it seems we will have a good harvest, both in terms of quantity and quality," Mrs. Serdari concludes.
