Stefania Montali, marketing manager and owner of Industrie Montali

"Private label growth supports orders for our products"

"We are registering an increase in orders thanks to the fact that we have started working with some Italian chains that feature private label or MDD products," reports Stefania Montali, marketing manager and owner of Industrie Montali.

"The phenomenon is not only occurring on the Italian market, as private labels (MDD) continue to grow abroad as well, confirming themselves as the most dynamic segment with a growth of +0.8% per pack. I am of the opinion that MDDs continue to grow because consumers like the idea that these products can be found on the shelves at lower prices yet with the same quality as branded products. This shows how a large part of Italian consumers choose products based on price, as a consequence of the crisis that is affecting their shopping baskets."

Industrie Montali is a company from Emilia boasting over 100 years of history and which, in the generational change, has been able to intercept the needs of consumers, anticipating changes in lifestyle and food consumption patterns over the last twenty years. The Montali family's initial vocation for canned products expanded to the processing of tomato paste and the production of ready-made sauces in single-serve sachets and pâtés in tubes, thereby creating a wide range of easy-to-use products.

"Despite the difficult geopolitical situation, we are growing even in countries currently at war, thanks to the reputation that Italian products enjoy worldwide. A trend that started a few years ago is consolidating on the food market, namely the search for food that is 'safe' for health and the environment, whose ingredients - first and foremost the origin and processing along the entire supply chain - are grown transparently and sustainably. This attention is not only limited to the products themselves, but it also involves other elements from the quality of the packaging to marketing, which must be convincing yet authentic to the point that consumers must be absolutely convinced when choosing a product over others."

The Easy Montali range includes the Sauces and Chef lines. Sauces are available in Sweet and Sour with Onion, Cocktail, Barbecue, and Ketchup flavours, either in tubes or single-serve sachets. Ketchup is the second most popular sauce in some Eastern European countries after mayonnaise, and represents the flagship product of the company's range.

With its snack, ready-made sauces, catering, and organic/vegan options, the range of EasyMontali branded products meets multiple needs and is offered to the retail, H&R, and, as mentioned, private label sectors. Exports account for 90% of the turnover between the United States, Singapore, Great Britain, Germany, the Czech Republic, Belgium and - more recently - Australia, Central America and Panama. Interest in Italian-made products is also growing in the UAE (United Arab Emirates), as confirmed by the export data of the agri-food sector, which shows a growth of 51.29% in 2023.

"The products are available in either single-serve sachets or handy tubes. These are sustainable product lines, whose strengths include a number of advantages from the reduction of waste to the preservation of the freshness of raw materials. More generally, the single-serve format seems to be the answer to a growing demand for smaller packets, which mainly comes from foreign markets where portion packs have been consolidated for years compared to Europe, even more so in emerging countries."

"Thanks to important investments and with a view to environmental sustainability, as of this year we are producing energy autonomously thanks to the installation of a photovoltaic system. As for promotion, we will attend Milan's Tuttofood 2025 in early May and then the prestigious PLMA in Amsterdam, an international trade fair dedicated to private labels, from 20 to 21 May 2025."
