Ukrainian company expands berry business through farmer partnerships

Bonifruit, a company based in Ternopil, Ukraine, has established a successful collaboration with local farmers to develop the berry business. Specializing in frozen fruit, the company not only purchases berries from farmers but also provides them with high-quality strawberry seedlings free of charge.

Since its founding in 2020, Bonifruit has focused on freezing berries, primarily strawberries and raspberries. As part of its partnership program, the company supplies farmers with top-quality strawberry seedlings under a four-year contract. In return, Bonifruit guarantees the purchase of their entire harvest at a fixed price, protecting farmers from market fluctuations.

For raspberry production, the company works with growers within a 70 km radius, ensuring strict quality control. The berries must not be overripe or affected by disease.

Bonifruit sources strawberry seedlings from leading European nurseries, ensuring they are disease-free and highly productive.

Currently, about 180 farmers across western Ukraine, including Ternopil, Rivne, Lviv, Khmelnytskyi, and Volyn regions, are part of the program.

Farmers benefit from expert guidance, including recommendations on fertilizers and plant protection methods approved in Europe. Bonifruit also organizes training seminars with leading agronomists and industry experts.

Once harvested, strawberries are washed, sorted, and frozen at Bonifruit's facility, while raspberries undergo freezing and inspection before being packaged. The company processes about 25 tons of frozen berries daily, exporting them to Poland, France, and the Czech Republic for further processing.

With stable prices, guaranteed sales, and expert support, Bonifruit's initiative continues to attract new farmers. The company is already planning the 2025 planting season, with 25 hectares of strawberries set for cultivation.
