Grupo MAS, a family-owned Spanish food distribution company with over 50 years in the sector, has partnered with intralogistics provider Cimcorp to implement an automated order-picking system at its distribution center in Guillena, Sevilla. The new system will streamline fresh fruit logistics, reduce manual handling, and improve delivery efficiency to the company's network of more than 200 stores.
The decision to automate was driven by challenges such as limited space, rising logistics costs, and increasing demand for operational efficiency. Grupo MAS selected Cimcorp's solution to support logistics optimization while maintaining a focus on employee well-being and sustainability.

According to José Manuel Martín Alba, Director of Logistics and Transport at Grupo MAS, the system will allow the company to prepare goods within 24 hours, enhancing flexibility and agility across its operations. The solution is expected to improve stock control and reduce manual processes, allowing employees to concentrate on higher-value tasks in a safer and more structured environment.
Cimcorp representatives note that automation technologies are designed to simplify logistics while supporting workplace conditions. By minimizing the need for repetitive, heavy manual labor, such systems can improve operational performance while contributing to a more sustainable and efficient supply chain.
Sustainability remains a central aspect of Grupo MAS's long-term strategy. The company operates a "Zero Waste" program, which encourages the adoption of environmentally responsible practices across its operations. Through automation, Grupo MAS aims to reduce food waste and shrinkage by moving perishable goods more quickly and efficiently through its distribution network.
The system also supports local sourcing by enabling the faster and more reliable delivery of fresh, seasonal produce supplied by regional farmers. Grupo MAS anticipates that the improvements in logistics will help ensure that fresh fruit is available on store shelves before opening hours, improving product availability and meeting customer expectations for freshness.

Beyond current operational benefits, the investment in automation is also seen as a step toward future scalability. Grupo MAS is preparing for growth as part of its strategic plan for 2026–2028, and automation will allow the logistics team to adapt to increased volumes and evolving market conditions.
Cimcorp and Grupo MAS view the project as a long-term collaboration aimed at improving distribution efficiency while maintaining high service levels. With the introduction of automated systems, the company aims to build a more resilient and responsive supply chain capable of meeting the demands of a dynamic retail environment.
The partnership reflects a broader trend in food distribution, where logistics technology is increasingly being used to support both operational efficiency and sustainability goals. Through this initiative, Grupo MAS seeks to enhance its supply chain while continuing to deliver fresh produce reliably to consumers.
