Lemon exports from Turkey will be temporarily suspended starting April 8, 2025, due to unfavorable weather conditions in citrus-producing regions and the need to ensure domestic supply. The announcement was made by the Turkish Ministry of Trade, as reported by Ilkha.
"The export of lemons has been temporarily halted from April 8, 2025. This decision was taken to protect domestic demand and supply security following cold weather and frost conditions observed across the country," the Ministry stated.
Recent frosts affected citrus-growing areas in the Mediterranean provinces of Adana, Mersin, and Hatay, according to the Ministry.
The suspension decision was made jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The authorities also noted that additional measures could be introduced if necessary.
According to data from the Mediterranean Exporters' Association, cited by the Anadolu Agency, Turkey exported 1.639 million tons of citrus fruits in 2024. Citrus exports generated $1.046 billion in revenue last year.
Russia was the top destination for Turkish citrus exports in 2024, accounting for $375 million in exports. Other destinations included Iraq ($197 million), Ukraine ($108 million), Romania ($49 million), and Poland ($48 million).
