A new deep-water terminal, the Hateco Haiphong International Container Terminal (HHIT), officially opened in Haiphong City, Vietnam, over the weekend. The opening marks the culmination of a strategic partnership between Vietnam's Hateco Group and APM Terminals, a subsidiary of A.P. Moller-Maersk.
The facility, located at Lach Huyen Port, features two new berths designed to accommodate vessels of up to 18,000 TEU, aimed at improving container handling capacity in Northern Vietnam. The terminal is positioned to strengthen the region's connectivity to global trade routes, offering infrastructure to support larger ships and more efficient cargo movement.

Robert Mærsk Uggla, Chair of A.P. Moller-Maersk, stated that the terminal represents an important development for Vietnam's logistics sector. He highlighted the project's focus on efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental considerations. APM Terminals has contributed to the development of HHIT by sharing operational practices in areas such as safety, automation, artificial intelligence, process optimization, and decarbonization.
The terminal will be part of the new Gemini Cooperation network, a collaboration between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, enhancing East-West trade connections.
Tran Van Ky, Chairman of Hateco Group, noted the project's rapid development timeline—completed in 30 months—and described the terminal as a significant infrastructure addition for Northern Vietnam. He acknowledged the support of the Vietnamese government and the technical input from APM Terminals and Maersk during the project's development.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh and Danish Ambassador to Vietnam and Laos Nicolai Prytz. Both officials highlighted the terminal's role in advancing Vietnam's maritime capabilities and strengthening economic and diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Europe.
