Turkey lifts temporary ban on lemon exports after farmers' appeals

The Turkish Ministry of Trade has announced the suspension of a temporary ban on lemon exports, which had been scheduled to take effect on April 8.

The restriction raised concerns among local producers, who feared financial losses due to limited market access. According to Cumhuriyet, citing statements from Trade Minister Ömer Bolat, the decision to reverse the export ban was made after consultations with farmers and exporters. He also stated that domestic price developments would be closely monitored moving forward, and inspections would continue to ensure market stability.

The reversal has been positively received in agricultural circles, particularly in Mersin's Erdemli district, which produces over half of Turkey's lemon supply.

According to a statement from the ministry, the export restriction has been officially postponed until May 15, allowing lemon exports to proceed under current regulations.
