Exporting has been key to the success of Exquisite Fruits, a Valencian company that is being awarded by the FAES this year with its Internationalization Award.
Exquisite Fruits was founded by Daniel Vidal and Kiko Torres and it is a company that markets horticultural products, especially persimmon, stone fruit, citrus fruits and vegetables, around the world.
Seven years ago, when the company started, the persimmon -of the bright red variety- accounted for 70% of their turnover. Now, it accounts for nearly 40% of the company's sales, as the firm has been incorporating more fruits and vegetables into its offer and has more sales destinations. They have achieved this, thanks to its members commercial missions, perseverance, negotiations and many trips.
The company exports its products to Europe by land, and to the rest of its destinations by sea. The company's challenge is that the fruit arrives to the final consumer as fresh and in as good conditions as it had when it was harvested in the fields.
Its three main geographical destination areas are the United Kingdom and Central Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Holland), Eastern Europe (Belarus and Ukraine, Czech Republic and Poland) and Overseas, which includes countries like the United Arab Emirates (which is the main distribution center for the entire Middle East), Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Canada.
Each market has its peculiarities. "In Asia, consumers are very demanding regarding quality, in Eastern Europe people are more sensitive about prices, and in Central Europe they focus more on production processes," stated Daniel Vidal. In the short term, the company plans to ship its products to new destinations, such as: China, the United States, Jordan, Egypt, and India. Exquisite Fruits is also working to incorporate organic bananas imported from Ecuador and the Dominican Republic into their offer. In fact, they plan to handle three million tons of organic bananas in 2019.
Exquisite Fruits complies with the best quality standards and has already obtained four major certifications: the UN Global Compact (of the United Nations Organization), the IFS, and the ES-ECO-020-CV seal to operate with organic fruit.
In addition, the company develops corporate responsibility policies. For example, since it is importing bananas from the Dominican Republic, it plans to help with educational projects in that country in the coming months.
In 2017 Exquisite Fruits' turnover exceeded 11 million euro, an amount that the company expects to match in 2018 and surpass in 2019.
