“Each year, around Sinterklaas (5th December when Dutch children receive presents), we see a peak in demand for clementines. We are currently in the top weeks for citrus”, says Jolene Gijbels at Euro Gijbels' location in Spain. This Belgian company mainly cultivates its own product. It also cooperates with local growers who can supply this product.
Thanks to its well-equipped site in Spain, Euro Gijbels can play directly into their clients' demands. These include packaging, sizes and so on. "Despite the smaller sizes we have this year, the quality and taste are very good", she says.
Oranges
Clementines are this company's site in Spain's most important product within the citrus range. "Besides clementines, we also do oranges, but clementines are our main product. We can increase the citrus production within a few weeks. Then, several varieties of oranges will become available”, says Jolene.
The rain experienced over the last few weeks means this site has a lower supply. "The current supply is gone. They have worked hard in Spain on the days when picking could occur in order to deliver the products to the clients on time."
