Hort Connections will be taking place in Melbourne, Australia from June 24 - 26. One of the US-based companies exhibiting at the show is Catalytic Generators. The company manufactures ripening equipment and will be showcasing the latest version of its Easy-Ripe® ethylene generator which was just launched this year. Leigh Cummin of Catalytic Generators Australia, said the show provides an opportunity to meet with customers. He will be joined by Greg Akins from the United States head office.
"Our focus at Hort Connections is to show attendees how our systems provide for efficient ripening and make it safer and easier than traditional methods," he said. "As Hort Connections is the largest show for Aus-Veg and PMA Australia New Zealand it is always good to meet with our new and existing customers to showcase our latest products. We are excited to be showing our latest version of Easy-Ripe® to the Australian and New Zealand markets. They were released at recent shows in Europe. We will have both portable and fixed generators on display."
In addition to the new Easy-Ripe®, Catalytic Generators will also be demonstrating their 'Centralized Ripening System' (CRS), as Cummin explained. "The CRS makes large-scale ripening easier, as Ethy-Gen® II Concentrate is delivered to each room via pipe and converted into ethylene as needed, independently in each room by small CRS Generators."
Features of the new ethylene generator
Aside from a new-look design, the redesigned Easy-Ripe® has a new tank to allow for easier viewing of liquid levels. Additionally, Catalytic Generators has incorporated new technology into the generator to more precisely control the amount of ethylene being produced. The company says it also has the ability to be remotely-controlled if required.
"The redesigned Easy-Ripe® has a new tank and cap, which integrates a liquid level indicator, making it easier to know how much Ethy-Gen® II is in the tank," Cummin described. "Also, over the years, our generators have always provided dependable ethylene output in the range required by the user, but we wanted to provide even better accuracy by giving the generator the ability to connect to controllers equipped with ethylene sensors. So the new Easy-Ripe® has input options to allow for remote control from PLC or other control panel."
Precise ripening taking hold in the region
Both Australian and New Zealand producers have a deep understanding of ripening processes, according to Cummin. He also said they are interested in new technologies, especially ones that can assist in more precise application of agents like ethylene. Hence why Catalytic Generators has a presence in Melbourne and also believe the new Easy-Ripe® will fit the market well.

"Australian and New Zealand growers and ripeners are always interested in new technology to help them deliver excellent fresh produce," Cummin observed. "There is real understanding of what ethylene will do to help the ripening process in all types of produce, including bananas, mangos, avocados, pears, tomatoes, citrus and many more. They are discovering that Catalytic Generators and Ethy-Gen® II Ripening Concentrate is leading the way in delivering safe and efficient ethylene production with lowered risk, covered by full service and support in Melbourne by Catalytic Generators Australia."
Catalytic Generators will be at Booth #215.
