Pakistani mangoes will be available in Swiss and German retail for about a month more, according to initial expectations. This is reported by Waheed Abdul Khan, Managing Director of Swiss company Swipko. For the first time, the dedicated supplier is offering the exotic fruit under the new, proprietary brand: Mangology. Already it has seen positive interim result, now shortly before the end of the season. "All in all, the campaign went pretty well for us."
The young wholesale supplier based in Sankt-Gallen has been in Germany for the last few weeks, where he visited various hypermarkets across Germany - from Hamburg to Frankfurt - in order to talk to potential buyers. "At the moment we already have about 5 to 6 bulk, German wholesaler buyers who want to sell our mangoes next year," says Mr. Khan.
According to Waheed Khan, the price of the Pakistani mangoes has stayed the same throughout the campaign. "The selling price is still around €5.50 per 1.5-kg carton, similar to the beginning of the season."
Further expansion of the private label
The corresponding branding of the mangoes from the Asian country was also very well received in Switzerland, says the satisfied retailer. "We have been able to place our mangoes successfully in both important sales markets: retail and wholesale. The goal for next year is to further expand this customer base, as well as the presence of this brand."
