"The new production season will officially begin in one month"

"Chinese mango export from Panzhihua looks promising"

Most of the mangoes currently available on the Chinese market come from Hainan Island. However, the mango production season in Hainan will officially come to an end in June. That is when the mangoes from Panzhihua enter the market. They neatly fill an opening in the Chinese mango market.

Mr. Fu Zuhong of Miyi County People's Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. recently shared his analysis of current conditions in the Chinese mango market: "This year we begin delivering our mangoes in the middle of June. The supply period continues through July until December. That is a longer supply period than most other companies. We are able to deliver for a longer period because we grow a wide variety of mangoes. Unfortunately, a cold air current badly affected the growing conditions this year. The ratio of fruit-bearing trees is somewhat disappointing. The overall production volume may decline by as much as 30%. We expect the price to rise in comparison with previous years. Still, the cold current did not affect the product quality or flavor. So we are quite optimistic about the upcoming production season."

Mr. Fu Zuhong mainly cultivates Jinhuang and Keitt mango varieties. At the same time, he also pays attention to new developments and improvements in the mango industry. He invests in innovation to speed up developments in the Chinese mango market. According to him, Chinese consumers attach more and more importance to healthy food: "This year we are working hard on the research and development of a selenium-rich mango variety. We use selenium-rich nutrient fluid during the growing process, which helps to increase the level of selenium in the mangoes, and this in turn is beneficial for the health of Chinese consumers."

Miyi County People's Agricultural Development supplies the domestic market, but also exports mangoes to Canada and Russia. "Overseas market demand is quite strong. We are pleased with the volume of overseas orders. We take advantage of the direct railway between Moscow and Kunming to transport our mangoes to Russia. We face competition from other countries, in particular India, but we continue to improve our products and hope to continue growing our share of the international market."

"Our mango plantation is located in Panzhihua. The plantation covers a surface area of more than 6,667 hectares. We own about 667 hectares, and the remaining 6,000 is owned by the farmers we cooperate with. The mango varieties grown in this area include the Keitt mango, Guifei mango, Jinhuang mango, and the Jilu mango. The production volume per 0.07 hectare is around 3 tons. In addition to mangoes, we also export other agricultural products such as the Tunisian seedless pomegranate and the fragrant Yuan pear."
