Seasonal mango supply drops in Indore, Madhya Pradesh

The seasonal supply of mangoes has dropped to almost half in Indore’s Choithram market due to the Covid lockdown that has led to a decline in produce arrivals. Daily arrivals of mango in Indore city have dropped to around 15 truckloads in a day as against the usual supplies of 30-40 truckloads a day in the summer season, according to traders at the Choithram market.

Most of the supplies are coming from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh while 1-2 truckloads of mangoes are arriving from Maharashtra. Indore is a big trading centre for mangoes with as many as 50 big traders dealing in bulk supplies arriving from various parts of the country, including southern India, UP and Maharashtra.

Traders told timesofindia.indiatimes.com that since the season commences from April, the first supply usually comes from southern India with the ‘badam’ variety and later in the month of June, ‘dusherra’ and ‘langda ‘varieties come from UP. Despite a drop in supplies, mango prices have remained stable in the market due to moderate demand.
