Chinese customs office in Dalian confiscates 3,000 boxes of Vietnamese bananas on the grounds of trademark infringement

The customs office in Dayaowan port, in Dalian, investigated 3,080 boxes of Vietnamese imported bananas and confiscated them on the grounds of trademark infringement. The boxes feature a pattern of five rings that violates the intellectual property right of the Olympic rings. An officer of the customs office stated that the boxes have been confiscated on suspicion of copyright infringement.

The Chinese Olympic Committee confirmed that the boxes with Vietnamese bananas violated their copyright and that they have asked the customs office to hold the boxes. The customs office has confiscated the boxes in accordance with relevant laws and regulations, pending further investigation.

The 'Regulations concerning the protection of the Olympic symbol' state that the use of the Olympic symbol in commercial activities, not sanctioned by the Olympic Committee, are in violation of intellectual property rights.
