Belgium's Colruyt starts home delivery: “Reaching half the population within a year”
Belgian retail group Colruyt has started its home delivery service. From its new e-commerce distribution centre in Londerzeel, which can handle up to million reservations per year, Colruyt’s e-commerce branch Collect&Go will deliver groceries in a number areas with high population density using its own drivers. The project starts in seven municipalities near Brussels (Auderghem, Etterbeek, Kraainem, Watermael-Boitsfort, Wezembeek-Oppem, Woluwe-Saint-Lambert and Woluwe-Saint-Pierre), two municipalities near Antwerp (Edegem and Mortsel) and two districts of Antwerp (Hoboken and Wilrijk).

Aldi voted top supermarket by British suppliers
Aldi has notched up a record eighth year as the UK’s leading supermarket when it comes to complying with the Groceries Supply Code of Practice, according to a poll by the Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA), the regulator for the sector. The Supermarket has taken first place in the GCA’s annual survey in respect to “overall assessment of compliance” with the Groceries Supply Code of Practice. Aldi scored 98% compared to a score of 97% in 2021, its highest score in five years, showcasing its commitment to supplier relationships. Aldi also remained top in the suppliers’ “assessment of whether retailers conduct trading relationships with suppliers fairly, in good faith and without duress”.

Bringo and Carrefour complete 5mln orders in Romania
Bringo and Carrefour have completed 5mln orders during their five-year collaboration in Romania. The partners plan to expand the service in all major cities in Romania, following the introduction of the 30-minute delivery option last year. Fast delivery is supported by medium and small store formats in 15 new cities, including Bacau, Craiova, Arad, Ploiesti, Galati, Brăila, Botoșani, Piatra Neamț, Oradea, Pitești, Sibiu, Târgu Mureș, Baia Mare, Buzău and Râmnicu Vâlcea.

U.S. e-grocery sales trend down again in May
Online grocery sales fell again on a sequential basis in May, with the month-to-month decrease nearly double the size of the decline in April, strategic advisory firm Brick Meets Click reported. The U.S. online grocery market totaled $7.1bln for May, down 12.3% from $8.1bln in April, when sales had dipped 6.9% month to month, according to the latest Brick Meets Click/Mercatus Grocery Shopping Survey.

US: Cardenas Markets to be acquired by Apollo Funds
Funds managed by global alternative asset manager Apollo have agreed to acquire Hispanic grocer Cardenas Markets from investment funds affiliated with international investment firm KKR. Upon completion of the deal, Apollo Funds will combine Tony’s Fresh Market, a Chicago-based portfolio company since its acquisition this past April, with Cardenas to create a Hispanic- and ethnic-focused grocer. Both companies will continue to operate under their respective brands and local leadership while benefiting from greater scale, complementary capabilities and an expanded operating footprint, according to New York-based Apollo. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Amazon says it will begin delivering packages by drone in California later this year
Amazon said it will begin to deliver products using Prime Air drones in Lockeford, California, later this year. It’s the first time the company plans to use drones for customer deliveries in the U.S. Other companies, like Alphabet and Walmart, have already started to make similar flying deliveries.

US: Spokane grocery store chain to acquire Missoula Fresh Market locations
A Spokane grocery store chain has announced that it will be acquiring two Missoula grocery stores, but the names will remain very similar. Yoke's Fresh Markets, an independent, employee-owned regional grocery chain with 17 stores, has entered into an agreement to buy the two Missoula Fresh Market locations at 3801 S. Reserve St. and 800 W. Broadway.
