The occupation by the Russians of a part of the fertile south of Ukraine and the blocking of seaports made it difficult for the domestic production of fresh vitamins and their import to Ukraine.
Agricultural producers from free Ukrainian regions did everything possible to fill the domestic market with their products. However, for them, the increase in the price of fuel, seed materials and fertilizers became trials. And now, power outages are also making it difficult to store the harvest.
According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, in 2022, the growth of consumer prices for vegetables amounted to 68.5 %, for fruits 27.7 %. By the end of February 2023, according to scientists, the prices of vegetables will increase by 5-7 %.
According to the calculations of the scientists of the Institute of Agrarian Economics, the supply of fruit and vegetables in Ukraine is sufficient to meet the demand of the population and a shortage is not expected.
These issues can be solved by imports, but import logistics will be much more expensive in Ukraine this year. Vegetables are imported mainly from Turkey and Poland. Compared to the 2021 year, the import of vegetables increased sharply, by about 43 percent.
