The EU nut market is going through difficult times, due to which exports from Moldova have decreased, Oleg Tyrsyne, chairman of the Union of Associations of Nut Producers of Moldova, said on January 31 in an interview with Sputnik Moldova.
Due to inflation, the consequences of coronavirus restrictions, events in Ukraine, and the energy crisis, the budget of the average European have changed, Tyrsyne said.
According to the expert, Moldova used to be able to sell its entire harvest in the EU due to the geographical proximity and taste qualities of Moldovan nuts. Suppliers from the USA, Chile, and China have always been left with large carry-over balances.
“Moldova has never before been left with a large balance of production after the end of the season. This year, unfortunately, it has affected us too. The European market is quite balanced, where there is no big deficit or excess of products,” the expert said.
