The expansion and reinforcement works of the breakwater pier of the Paita Port Terminal, in the Piura region, have been finished. The renewed infrastructure, completed last January, will make it possible to receive larger ships and will contribute to boosting export and import activities in Piura and surrounding regions. It is estimated that its carrying capacity for agricultural exports and various products will increase by 200 tons per year.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) promoted this work that will boost the economy in the north of the country. The investment amount amounts to US$16.4 million without IGV.
Among the main products exported through this port are mangoes, bananas, grapes, avocados and blueberries. It is important to highlight that before the concession, this terminal served 300 ships a year; currently it serves about 500 ships.
