Theoretically, the prices of apples should increase during the first half of the year, experts believe, because there is a classic relationship: the fewer the leftovers, the higher the price. The only question is whether such an increase will cover the cost of storage.
Ukrainian apple producers have until April for successful sales for export. Then apples from the southern hemisphere will appear, prices should decrease, and then producers will only have the domestic market, the expert explains, and, in his opinion, there are many reasons to credit this forecast.
"We have to rely primarily on the volumes of apples that remain in Europe, and no one knows how both Ukrainian and European producers will behave," says Gurzhii. Because today, the main driving factor for the activation of sales is the war and related economic, migration, and tourist factors. Anyway, if we calculate the economy for five years, we see that it is more profitable to evenly stretch the volume of apples and sell them throughout the season than to hold them until late in the season."
