Week 9 Wholesale Fruit Market Report

A large number of seaborne Chilean prunes are on the market

With the arrival of large ships carrying Chilean prunes and other peaches and plums to Hong Kong this week, seaborne prunes are now on the market in large quantities, making them the largest category in the fruit market.

Seaborne Chilean prunes are mostly packed in plastic crates, and some are packed in cartons of different specifications. Some merchants said that more prunes were shipped by sea in the early days, and some merchants believed that the overall volume was less than that of the same period last year.

Many merchants said that the overall quality of this batch of prunes arrived was satisfactory, which was better than last year. With the increase in the volume of arrivals, the price of prunes has gradually declined. In terms of sales, the market will easily accept the good quality batches introduced by merchants even if the price is slightly higher.

Imported grapes from Chile are already on the market, but the volume of arrivals is not large. Merchants said that the taste is not yet in place because it is still in the early stage. The origins of imported grapes currently on sale include Peru, Chile, Australia, South Africa, and India (finger green grapes), etc., and most of the arrivals are Peruvian green grapes.

According to information from different merchants, the price of Peruvian green grapes has fluctuated slightly this week. However, the overall price is still higher than in the same period last year. The arrival of Peruvian red grapes has been relatively small recently, so the goods are sold quickly. Some merchants dealing in South African red grapes said that the taste of the first batch of red grapes is not as ideal. Although the price is not high, the sales are slow.

The origins of imported avocados include Peru and Mexico, and most avocados are imported from Peru. Due to the fact that the overall arrival has been relatively small, the price of avocados is still at a high level, and the cost is about ¥180-¥190/box. Although the price has dropped compared to the previous two weeks, it was only ¥90-¥120/box in the same period last year, and the current price is still on the high side. According to the merchants, as the market demand still exists and the arrivals continue to be low, even if the price is high, the delivery is still smooth.

At present, most of the imported apples are produced in the United States. The U.S. fairy fruit arrived this week, and the price is about ¥500 per box, which is about 10% higher than the same period last year.

In terms of domestic high-quality fruit, a strawberry businessman said that in response to the coming of the March 8th Women's Day next week, the recent sales have been satisfactory, and the price of strawberries has not changed much since the Spring Festival. Strawberry varieties on sale include red strawberries from Dandong, Light Snow white strawberries from Shandong, and Fenyu pink strawberries. The arrival of blueberries from Yunnan is increasing, and more different brands are on the market. Sales are relatively stable. Other common domestic fruits on sale include pineapples, citrus, cherry tomatoes, loquats, milk jujubes, etc.
