Colombian Anti-Narcotics Police Director, Colonel Edgar Cárdenas, has announced the discovery of more than 1.6 tons of cocaine hidden among a shipment of bananas en route to Belgium from the Uraba port in Antioquia. The seizure resulted in disrupting illegal financial activities of the drug superstructures worth approximately 274 million pesos.
Colonel Cardenas has vowed to continue carrying out inspections of containerized cargo in ports throughout the country with institutional capacities and the support of the canine guides. The global production of cocaine has risen by 35% as reported by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) last year, with Colombia continuing to dominate trafficking routes in North America.”
