Europatat warmly welcomes the Polish company LIND, which was established in 1996 as an investment of a Scottish family-run agricultural business with generations experience in the production of high-grade seed potatoes – J&WF Lind, located in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
J&WF LIND was a pioneer in production of pre-basic seed potatoes in Great Britain. It was also the first company to have commercial potato micropropagation laboratory and is the largest independent producer of pre-basic seed potatoes in Scotland. The entire seed material of Scottish company comes from production in its own micropropagation laboratory which means that seed potatoes are produced in a completely closed propagation cycle with the strict adherence to biological safety.
Currently J&WF Lind grows about 50 potato varieties. In Poland, Lind plants ca. 400 hectares of seed potatoes per year, ca.75% of free varieties and 25% on contract for variety breeders. Seed potatoes are produced in a completely closed propagation cycle (some of them are produced from microplants), with strict adherence to phytosanitary conditions and varietal purity. To achieve that, Lind is not contracting out any seed growing. All field works, storage, grading are in its own management.
Seed potatoes are reproduced in Poland for a maximum of two years, which is aimed at growing the best product, free of diseases and viruses, guaranteeing obtaining a good robust seed material in the reproduction process. A combination of the best seed material and the most favorable conditions for potato growing in the northwestern region of Poland, close to Baltic Sea, guarantee the highest quality and health of seed potato.
LIND has achieved a significant position in the Polish and European markets. It grows seed for processing and table markets, both free and licensed varieties. A few years ago, it started cooperation with markets outside Europe and is the only exporter of seed potatoes from Poland to Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
