In mid-May, prices for new harvest potatoes, cabbage, and carrots rose sharply.
Agricultural companies began shipping young cabbage at 30% higher prices than a week ago. The cause of the price increase is the reduced supply in the market and high consumer demand. Early cabbage last year cost approximately 1.5 times less than it does now.
Supplies of carrots in Ukrainian farms are almost depleted, allowing farmers to raise prices. It is not possible to eliminate the deficit through imports. Since the beginning of the week, last year's carrots have increased in price by 10%.
"Seasonal vegetables will begin to become cheaper, at best, at the beginning of June, and at the worst, in mid-June when locally grown vegetables start arriving on our shelves. This year's spring has been cold. We expect a decrease in price somewhere between 20-30%," says expert Oleg Pendzin.
