Week 21 Wholesale Fruit Market Report

The arrivals of mangosteens have increased, and a large number of bayberries enter the market

In the fruit market, more and more domestic fruits are arriving. Seasonal fruits include bayberry, lychee, peach, and cherry. Among the imported fruits, durians are still selling well, mangosteens from Thailand are increasing, and grapefruits from South Africa are selling smoothly.

The arrival of mangosteens from Thailand has increased compared with last week, and the price has dropped accordingly, but it is still at a high level. The price of high-quality fruits has been adjusted from more than ¥400 per unit last week to about ¥300 at present, but it was about ¥270-¥280 in the same period last year. Merchants said that the current prices are quite variable. For example, there are also goods with a price of around ¥200 RMB per unit, but the quality is relatively low. In addition, the current arrivals are mainly 6A large fruits, and there are some 5A and 2A small fruits, but the best-selling 4A medium fruits have hardly arrived. It is understood that the sales of large-sized fruit are slower, and it is not as good as medium-sized fruit.

Durian is still selling well. Due to the limited arrivals, the price of Thailand's A-grade Monthong durian has risen to ¥1100-¥1300/unit (about 19kg), a slight increase from last week; the price of Kanyao is stable, and the A-grade box is about ¥350- ¥370/piece (about 7.5kg), which is basically the same as the previous two weeks. It is understood that the current taste and quality of Vietnam's Kanyao are relatively satisfactory, the price is not high, and the Monthong is out of stock, so the overall sales are smooth.

Left: South African grapefruit; Right: South African lemons

The South African lemons arrived in early May, later than usual. Because the price is still high shortly after entering the market, the current selling price is about ¥260/piece (30-16kg), and the merchants estimate that it will gradually adjust to ¥220-¥230/piece. It is reported that many of the lemons that have arrived so far are relatively green in color, and the price is high, so the sales are slow. Merchants estimate that when the appearance and price of the arrival goods improve, the sales will improve. As for South African grapefruit, the current price, taste and quality are relatively stable, and the demand is strong. Merchants said that the #45 size is the best.

Yunnan bayberry

A large number of domestic bayberries are on the market, and the Dongkui bayberry produced in Yunnan is the main one at present. It is understood that the price of bayberries has dropped due to the increase in arrivals. For example, the previous price of ¥ 180/piece will be sold at ¥ 110/piece this week. At present, the taste of bayberry is right, the fruit size is larger than before, and the sales are generally smooth. However, some merchants said that due to the increase in the arrivals, the sales were not as good as before.

Left: Hainan Seedless Lychee; Right: Yunnan Shine Muscat

As for other domestic fruits, the Hainan Feizixiao lychee production season is coming to an end, and varieties such as seedless lychee and lychee king will take over the market with higher prices. Shine Muscat grapes were mainly small-sized fruits when they were launched in a limited amount earlier, but now there are large and medium, but they have not yet been on the market in a concentrated and big scale. Blueberries are still mainly produced in Yunnan, and the current variety is mostly "Jewel". Merchants said that the market has declined recently. In addition, seasonal fruits such as Sichuan peaches, winter jujubes, and Xinjiang small white apricots have begun to appear on the market in small quantities.
