As the cauliflower harvest arrives in Poland, the Polish white cabbage season is also running. According to Kornelia Lewikowska, purchasing manager for Polish vegetable exporter Green Best, the volumes will cover all of their orders this year: “Our white cabbage season is officially in full swing. Thankfully, the season didn’t have a single day of delay and started at the same time as it does every year. The available volumes are satisfactory, we’ll have no problems fulfilling the orders of our clients, there is no fear of any shortages of the goods. As the season is ramping up, available volumes are increasing week by week, which is typical for new crop vegetables.”
Inflation hasn’t left the white cabbages untouched, Lewikowska explains. The vegetable price will increase by almost a third: “When looking at the prices for white cabbage this year, it appears they’ve increased by quite a bit. Looking year-on-year, this season’s prices are about 30 per cent higher. Thankfully, this hasn’t had a huge impact on the demand though, as it’s still on the higher end of the scale. That said, it’s still comparable to last year’s demand, so it’s not too crazy.”
As stated, the cauliflower season is also kicking off, which is an important season for Green Best. As such, the volumes will start shifting from white cabbages to the cauliflowers: “Simultaneously, we’re in the midst of our cauliflower season, of which the new harvest has just arrived. This means that over the course of the next couple of weeks, we will increase the sales of our cauliflowers in favor of the white cabbage,” Lewikowska concludes.
