During the beginning of autumn, the supply of greenhouse and ground tomatoes and cucumbers significantly decreased, which led to a sudden price increase. The “APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits” project reports this information.
They note that tomatoes saw the most significant price increase, with an almost 37% rise in just the first week of autumn. A similar situation has occurred in the carrot and white cabbage segment, which also became more expensive due to decreased supply on the market. In general, most Ukrainian farms have already completed the harvest of medium-grade cabbage and carrots, while the harvesting of late varieties has only begun in a few farms.
The season for selling watermelons is ending, so their price is expected to rise.
Specialists estimate that popular vegetable prices will decrease in the coming weeks as most producers begin harvesting late varieties. Furthermore, price trends in the greenhouse produce segment may significantly change as soon as most Ukrainian greenhouse complexes enter the market with a new supply of greenhouse cucumbers and tomatoes.
