The exports of summer fruits and vegetables decreased by 9.3% in Greece

The harvest of summer fruits and vegetables in Greece proceeded at a faster pace compared to last year. The volumes of fresh produce exports decreased by 9.3% compared to the corresponding period in 2022.

According to data provided by the Association of Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Incofruit Hellas, the exports were as follows:

  • Watermelons: 166,031 tons compared to 187,502 tons last year (a decrease of 11.5%).
  • Apricots: 25,949 tons compared to 20,723 tons last year (an increase of 25.2%).
  • Peaches: 65,497 tons compared to 70,565 tons last year (a decrease of 7.2%).
  • Nectarines: 45,834 tons compared to 49,584 tons last year (a decrease of 7.6%).
  • Cherries: 26,519 tons compared to 34,782 tons last year (a decrease of 23.8%).
  • Table grapes: 13,709 tons compared to 15,506 tons last year (a decrease of 11.6%).

The export of oranges from January 9, 2022, to September 1, 2023, amounted to 349,419 tons (an increase of 30.1%) compared to 268,660 tons in the 2021/22 season. “In all Mediterranean countries, grape production has suffered significant damage, and this is happening in our country as well,” noted the Head of Administration, Polychronakis, emphasizing that the quality of grapes is better than last year, and the taste is perfect.
