Yesterday, the Clemenules harvest in the region of La Plana, in the province of Castellón, for which the Nuleta brand was recently created, officially started with an event in which the first fruit was cut.
The event was held at a Clemenules orchard in the municipality of La Vall d'Uixó, the area of the region where this variety ripens the earliest.
This initiative was born with the purpose of achieving a fair price for the producers of Clemenules in the region of La Plana, where this variety originated. The Nuleta brand represents and promotes the quality and geographical origin of the fruit and, together with the Valencian Citrus Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), offers a double seal of guarantee and quality.
Nuleta, the Geographical Quality Brand of Clemenules de la Plana begins its season with the slogan "The Queen of La Plana" and, for the first time, is part of the citrus campaign.
The event was attended by a representation of the 29 entities and institutions that make up the Association for the Enhancement of the Quality of Clemenules in the region of La Plana, which was represented at the event by Juanvi Moros, its president, and César Estañol, its spokesman. The event was also attended by the regional secretary of Agriculture, Javier Bartolomé, the president of the Valencian Citrus PGI, José Barres, the delegate of the Council in Castellón, Susana Fabregat, the territorial director of Agriculture, M. Luisa Albiol; the provincial deputy, Sergio Fornás; Senator Vicente Tejedo, spokespersons of different municipalities, and representatives of agricultural entities such as AVA-Asaja, the Union of Llauradors and Ramaders, IVIA, OCAPA Vila-real, and la Vall, among other people.
The event also served to let attendees know the current situation of the agricultural sector and the importance of creating this new brand for the future of citrus growing in the region of La Plana.
The Association for the Promotion of the Quality of Clemenules in the region of La Plana was formally constituted in 2021 and is formed by the municipalities of Almassora, Moncofa, Betxí, Borriana, Vall d'Uixó, Vilavella, Nules, Vila-real, Artana, Castelló, Onda, and La Llosa, the Association of Wells, the Mijares Irrigation Union, and various agricultural and service cooperatives, citrus shops, and export cooperatives in the province of Castellón.
