UK: Sainsbury’s 'doubles' number of cheaper own brand products in smaller convenience stores
Chief executive Simon Roberts told The Telegraph that as the supermarket chain does not supply Nectar Card prices in its Sainsbury's Local stores, it has stocked more items of its own label Stamford Street range. Sainsbury's Stamford Street range is its budget line and covers more than 200 products including fresh fruit, yoghurts and cheese, as well as bread and cakes.

UK: Aldi makes changes to its Too Good To Go food bag service
Aldi has extended its collection window to reserve surplus food bags via Too Good To Go. The move will now mean customers can secure a bag up to 24 hours ahead of the collection time via the app. The ‘Surprise Bags’ contain a range of grocery products that are approaching their sell-by or use-by dates at less than a third of the price, costing just £3.30 each to purchase for at least £10 worth of food.

Foodstuffs, the owners of New World and Pak'nSave supermarkets, have a mammoth few days ahead, distributing millions of dollars worth of groceries in the lead up to December 25. Speaking to 1News, Merchandise Manager of meat and produce for Foodstuffs North Island Brigit Corson said this year's Christmas build-up is busier than last year. "We're busier in produce and that's because of supply, we're all about the weather in produce and making sure when the sun shines and the light levels are high, that those crops grow", she said.

Shoppers cooking less as inflation eases
Shopper concern over inflation has leveled out since August to around 65%, after reaching a high of 73% in 2022, but consumers are still on the hunt for ways to cut spending, according to a report from Kroger-owned data analytics firm 84.51°. Fifty-five percent of survey respondents said they’re cutting back on non-essentials like candy and snacks, 53% are switching to a lower-cost brand, 47% are purchasing fewer groceries, and 36% are cooking meals from scratch.
