Potato Market Update 10th January

Demand on a retail front is holding up extremely well in Ireland

Demand on a retail front is holding up extremely well in Ireland, following a busy holiday period. The cold snap we are experiencing is likely boosting consumption and sales. Prices are holding steady accordingly. Food service trade is slightly lacklustre although still busy, as to be expected following the festivities. There are further reports of quality issues in store which will reduce saleable for growers.

The situation is similar in the U.K. and across Europe as demand and sales begin to steady following the Christmas break. Export demand from the Canaries remains positive and values are holding firm as buyers try to find suitable quality samples.
