On February 8, 2024, specialists from the Kaluga Plant Quarantine Department identified the presence of the South American tomato moth in tomatoes originating from Turkey.
Samples of Turkish tomatoes intended for shipment to regions of Russia were submitted for analysis at the phytosanitary testing laboratory. Entomological research revealed the presence of the quarantine pest - Tuta absoluta (Meyrick).
A total volume of 20.05 tons of contaminated produce was identified.
Information about the detection of the quarantine pest was promptly forwarded to the territorial office of the Federal Service Rosselkhoznadzor to initiate legal measures. Since the beginning of the current year, over 1,012 tons of Turkish tomatoes have been inspected at the Kaluga Plant Quarantine Department.
