In 2023, Brazil's mango exportation reached unprecedented levels, marking a significant milestone in the country's agricultural sector. The revenue generated from mango exports was approximately US$315 million, surpassing the previous record of US$249 million set in 2021. This achievement represents a 15% increase in export volumes, totaling around 266 thousand tons. The data, originating from the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, underwent further analysis by Embrapa's Mango Market Observatory.
The majority of the exported mangoes, about 93%, were sourced from the São Francisco Valley in the Northeast region, predominantly from the states of Bahia and Pernambuco, contributing 47.36% and 45.42% to the exports, respectively. Additional contributions came from São Paulo (3.25%), Rio Grande do Norte (2.54%), and Ceará (0.79%). This export success was achieved despite a slight decrease in national mango production, which was estimated at 1.2 million tons in 2023, down from 1.5 million tons in 2022.
