Karmen field scales for grapes: a new season approaches

Seven years have passed since the launch of the Karmen scales, an innovative, lightweight and practical piece of equipment for the packaging of table grapes (and other products) upon harvesting, as they can be hooked to all types of stand.

"Many structural modifications have been introduced over the years, which enabled us to shift from the initial 5.5 kg of the version released in 2017 to the current 2.8 kg. The restyling also included the power source, as now both rechargeable and disposable batteries can be used, and the display is lit up. Our laboratories are already at work for the new production: we have to deliver over 200 scales, a good part of which destined to early production areas in Italy," explains Giuseppe Rescina, sales manager of Rescina Service in Noicattaro (Bari).

Giuseppe Rescina.

"This piece of equipment is known and used by Italian, European and extra-European grape producers and demand has increased also during difficult years such as the past one, when it was estimated that the drop in yields would have forced agricultural entrepreneurs to limit investments. We actually registered a 20% increase in deliveries. The lack of seasonal workers is pushing companies to equip themselves with tools like this one, as they facilitate operations, making harvesting and transportation easier."

Karmen scales are equipped with supports and a folding table (adjustable in depth) that facilitate the packaging of agricultural products, as they support all kinds of containers up to max 25 kg. The helical cable that can be moved inside the box makes it possible to move the display and control buttons, so operators can easily read the weight.

"We are helping upgrade dated, heavy and cumbersome equipment. We also take in old scales, including those that no longer work, thus promoting the sale of more modern equipment."
