The Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency has discovered issues with tomatoes intended for export this year. This was reported by Vafa Rustamova, head of a sector at AFSA.
She explained that if harmful substances are found in the exported tomatoes, the products are sent back to the country. In such cases, risk-oriented studies are conducted. Based on the results, the products are either destroyed or returned to the domestic market.
Azerbaijan is one of the largest producers and exporters of tomatoes in the region. The main countries importing Azerbaijani tomatoes are Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan.
