In the Snowy Valleys, Batlow Fruit Company, recognized as NSW's prominent apple grower and packer, has enhanced its packaging capacity due to funding from the Australian and NSW Governments. The Batlow packhouse modernization, receiving over $2.7 million through the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund and an additional $274,000 from Batlow Fruit Company, was inaugurated by Tara Moriarty, the NSW Minister for Regional NSW. This initiative is part of the governments' focus on the economic and social upliftment of rural areas in NSW.

The upgrade introduces advanced grading and sizing technology, replacing outdated systems used for four decades, aligning the facility with contemporary fruit processing standards. This development not only increases the packhouse's automation but also ensures it meets the major Australian supermarkets' specifications, enabling the company to adjust to market demand shifts while maintaining high-quality output.
With these upgrades, Batlow Fruit Company aims to distribute over one million cartons of apples annually, supporting the local economy and workforce. Federal Minister for Emergency Management Murray Watt highlighted the importance of such projects for the economic recovery and resilience of regions like Batlow, particularly after the Black Summer bushfires. Matt Palise, Director of Batlow Fruit Company, emphasized the upgrade's role in enhancing operational efficiency, sustainability, and service to local growers, ensuring the long-term viability of apple packaging in Batlow.
