Cameroon banana exports totalled 68,874 tons in the first four months of 2024

In the initial four months of 2024, Cameroon reported banana exports totaling 68,874 tons, as per the Cameroon Banana Association. The French agro-industrial entity, Compagnie Fruitière, through its subsidiaries Plantations du Haut Penja (PHP) and Compagnie des Bananes de Mondoni (CDBM), spearheaded these exports. CDBM, which began operations in June 2023, together with PHP, was responsible for 54,912 tons of the exported bananas, accounting for 79.7% of the total exports during this period. Specifically, PHP's exports were 51,395 tons, while CDBM exported 3,517 tons.

Compagnie Fruitière also played a significant role in providing technical support and overseeing production and export logistics for other local producers, including the state-owned CDC and the private entity Boh Plantations Plc (BPL). The figures reveal that Compagnie Fruitière managed the export of 10,255 tons for CDC and 3,707 tons for BPL. Notably, CDBM's exports nearly matched those of BPL, positioning it as a significant player in the market shortly after its inception.

Bananas have consistently been a key export commodity for Cameroon, with the sector experiencing a 1.6% increase in export revenues in 2023, reaching CFA31.4 billion, according to the National Institute of Statistics.
