Baltimore shipping lane reopens after period of more than two months

The shipping lane to the Port of Baltimore, obstructed due to the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse, was reopened after over two months. The reopening was facilitated by a comprehensive cleanup operation in the Patapsco River.

"We are proud of the unified efforts that fully reopened the Federal Channel to port operations," commented Scott Spellmon, the Army Corps of Engineers commander. The blockage, initiated by a cargo container ship's collision with the bridge on March 26, resulted in the death of six individuals and left the route inaccessible.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and navy salvage divers played a crucial role in removing approximately 50,000 tons of debris, allowing the Singapore-flagged Dali to be refloated and the channel, now 15 meters deep and 122 meters wide, to support two-way traffic without additional safety measures previously required.
