Drug seizure at German fruit supplier in Groß Kreutz

Officials reported the confiscation of approximately 450 kilograms of illegal substances at a fruit supplier in Groß Kreutz, Potsdam-Mittelmark district. The discovery was made after an employee noticed suspicious packages during an inspection and alerted the police, who then conducted a thorough search. The nature of the drugs has not been disclosed by the authorities. This incident follows previous drug finds at the same location, including around 500 kilograms of cocaine found in September last year and a significant 1.2 tons of cocaine seized in March 2023. Investigations into a potential drug haul a few weeks prior yielded no findings.

Brandenburg's police president, Oliver Stepien, stated: "The repeated seizures of large amounts of narcotics are not just a success in terms of confiscation, but also cause for concern." The site continues to be targeted by criminals despite these drug interceptions. Recent incidents have also involved the discovery of cocaine in supermarkets across Berlin and Brandenburg.

Stephan Weh, Head of the Berlin Police Union, expressed that the recurrent drug seizures, particularly involving banana crates, are unsurprising given the longstanding issue of cocaine overflow. He noted that smugglers and dealers anticipate some losses as part of their operations, which does not significantly impact their overall profit margins, with the street price of drugs remaining stable and purity levels increasing.
