Security measures necessary for cherry harvest in Bulgaria

Within the framework of a specialized security and preventive operation, teams from The Gendarmerie and the "Border Police," as reported by the regional directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, have initiated a coordinated effort to safeguard cherry plantations and harvest purchase points in Bulgaria.

This operation, particularly focused on the territories served by Kyustendil RU and Bobov dol RU, involves collaboration with local authorities to progressively augment security presence in critical areas. Measures include enforcing a cessation of fieldwork post-8:00 p.m., regulating the employment and transportation of labor for cherry harvesting, and monitoring the operational hours of cherry purchase sites.

To date, the initiative has reported no security breaches and will persist until the harvest season concludes. This action underscores the significance of agricultural produce protection, recalling past incidents where farmers faced mortal danger while defending their crops. The Kyustendil municipality, hosting approximately 20,000 acres of cherry orchards, remains a focal point of this operation.
