"Pakistani mangoes have market development potential"

The Pakistani mango production season spans from June to September, and the new season has just brought fresh mangoes to the Chinese market. "There are more than 300 varieties of Pakistani mangoes. We import the best-tasting Sindhri and Chaunsa varieties. The first batch this season weighed about 3 tons, and we import 5-7 batches annually," said Ms. Cindy Chen from Zhitong Batie (Guangzhou) Business Co., Ltd., which has been importing Pakistani mangoes since 2019.

"Pakistani mangoes are characterized by pure natural cultivation. They are grown on old trees, using naturally fermented fertilizers, without bagging, and without additional growth-promoting agents. This ecological planting method results in mangoes of varying sizes, with peels that may have small sun spots, but they retain the pure mango flavor, with a strong fragrance and high sweetness," Cindy explained.

"Mangoes are picked when they are 50-60% ripe, without artificial ripening. When they are airlifted to China and delivered to customers, they can be stored at room temperature for 13-15 days and eaten when naturally ripe. We sell them online, including through the Pakistani National Pavilion on JD.com. The new season has just started, and previous first batches have received very high market praise."

Regarding market competition, Cindy noted that the popularity and distribution of Pakistani mangoes in China are relatively low and still in the initial stages: "There are not many Pakistani imported products on the market, and our company is the only one that imports Pakistani mangoes consistently every year. Although competition is minimal at present, Pakistani mangoes have market development potential, and positive feedback has strengthened our confidence."

According to Cindy, the quality and price of Pakistani mangoes remain stable each year, with the current selling price at ¥168 per 4 kg box. "Quality control is crucial. We collaborate with high-quality local mango orchards and guide them in varieties, planting techniques, picking, and packaging. Additionally, we manage the entire post-harvest process, including packaging, logistics, and delivery to ensure product quality."

Zhitong Batie (Guangzhou) is dedicated to fostering cooperation between Chinese and Pakistani companies. The company collaborates with the Pakistani embassy and consulate in China to promote Pakistani specialties and facilitates visits by Chinese food, agriculture, and sideline product importers and exporters to Pakistan. They will also participate in the 2nd International Food and Agriculture Exhibition (FoodAg) in Karachi from August 9 to 11.
