Productivity SA and Gauteng Growth Development Agency (GGDA) would love to see the participation of Gauteng-based small and medium fresh produce and agro-processing enterprises in their export competitiveness programme (ECP) run over six months, says acting senior manager of Competitiveness Improvement Services (CIS), Matthews Moatli.
"The programme will implement operational efficiency interventions within the companies to improve overall performance to deliver on the company's overall objectives," he says. Participants are introduced to the Lean/Kaizen tools for continuous improvement, assisted in identifying productivity improvement projects and streamlining operations through coaching.
They will have the opportunity to share their experiences during Productivity SA's annual Workplace Challenge Programme (WPC) Milestone workshop.
Enterprises should have more than a minimum of five employees, should have been operational for at least two years on their own premises and either be an emerging or existing exporter.
"Improved management decision-making gets better results from the workforce through the involvement and consultation effectiveness, as well as improved morale of workers. Productivity SA's change management process encourages consultation of the workers," he remarks. "The process is based on a facilitation approach with a focus on developing capacity within the individual organisation, understanding problems and implementing solutions by themselves."
Productivity SA senior practitioners will arrange for a site visit to finalise the application. On approval, enterprises will receive an acceptance letter into the five stage programme consisting of a baseline assessment/approval, Kaizen (continuous improvement) training, process analysis/action planning, implementation/coaching and performance monitoring/ impact analysis
