Price escalation for fruits and vegetables in Russia

Throughout 2024, Russia has witnessed a marked escalation in the prices of various fruit and vegetable categories, transcending the usual seasonal fluctuations, as per Izvestia's report citing Rusprodsoyuz's statistical data.

Specifically, apples saw a 30 percent hike, reaching 159.8 rubles per kilogram, while beetroot and carrots experienced increases of 92.3 and 62.8 percent respectively, both settling at 70 rubles per kilogram. Additionally, Rosstat highlighted substantial price upticks in other vegetable commodities; potatoes surged by 82.4 percent, cabbage by 35 percent, and onions by 32 percent since January. Despite anticipations of price adjustments following a boost in harvest volumes, such trends have yet to materialize in the market, analysts noted. The Ministry of Agriculture has reiterated its commitment to monitoring food market prices, including fruits and vegetables.

Furthermore, Yaroslav Abramov from Grodan pointed out significant price rises in popular berries, with raspberries, cherries, and strawberries reaching 783, 486, and 551 rubles per kilogram respectively, attributing these increases to adverse weather conditions affecting several Russian locales.
