UK potato prices remain elevated as industry awaits new crop

This week commencing on 5th July, UK potato prices remain unchanged week-on-week (w-o-w) for Maris Piper and Whites in both England and Scotland. The Expana benchmark price (EBP) for English white potatoes is currently £765/MT, up 91% year-on-year (y-o-y).

Maris Piper potatoes are priced at the same level but are difficult to source, market players told Expana. It heard a large spread in prices, influenced by the arrangement and relationship with growers.

The new season of Maris Piper is available only through contracts. The maincrop potato harvest in England is expected to begin in approximately 10 days. Buyers are still actively chasing the crop, so prices are likely to remain high until August, depending on supply and demand, according to market players.
