Tomato truck incident on interstate 5 in California

A truck transporting tomatoes was involved in an accident on Interstate 5 near Patterson, leading to an overturn and spillage, as reported by the California Department of Transportation. The crash happened just after 8 a.m. near the Sperry Avenue/Diablo Grande Parkway exit. It caused the closure of both northbound lanes, with an expected reopening around 1 p.m.

Exactly what led up to the crash is unclear, but a semi-truck that was hauling tomatoes ended up on its side – blocking both lanes of northbound I-5 for a time.

To mitigate the impact, Caltrans crews have cleared the center divide of tomatoes, enabling its use as a temporary northbound lane.
