In June, Cameroon recorded a decrease in banana exports, totalling 14,042 tons, a downturn of 11.6% from the previous year's 15,670 tons, as reported by the Cameroon Banana Association (Assobacam). This decrease is attributed to reduced international market shipments by three of Cameroon's four active banana producers.
Plantations du Haut Penja (PHP), a subsidiary of Compagnie Fruitière de Marseille, experienced a reduction in exports by 1,936 tons, decreasing to 10,011 tons. The state-owned CDC also saw a decrease in exports, from 2,617 tons to 2,462 tons. Additionally, Boh Plantations Plc's exports declined by 526 tons, resulting in 534 tons exported.
Despite these decreases, the entry of Compagnie des Bananes de Mondoni (CDBM) into the market has been noteworthy. Starting with 46 tons in its initial month last year, CDBM reported exports of 1,035 tons a year later, marking a substantial increase and positioning it as Cameroon's third-largest banana producer for the second consecutive month.
