JD.com inks deal for Malaysian durian imports

JD Super, the online supermarket arm of JD.com, finalized a direct procurement agreement with Tanah Makmur Berhad (TMB) in Malaysia on July 9th for importing fresh durians. This includes the sought-after Musang King and Black Thorn varieties. Following the June 19th establishment of the Protocol on Phytosanitary Requirements for the Export of Fresh Durian from Malaysia to China, this partnership is poised to facilitate the entry of Malaysian durians into the Chinese market. The initial consignment of these naturally tree-drop fruits is anticipated to land in China by September.

Prior to this agreement, the procurement team from JD Super conducted on-site evaluations of durian orchards in Raub, Pahang, and engaged with local suppliers and processors to ensure compliance with JD's stringent safety and reliability standards. TMB operates a substantial durian plantation in Pahang, covering over 2,500 acres and housing more than 100,000 trees. With JD's robust supply chain and cold chain logistics capabilities, the company is set to ensure the high-quality and efficient distribution of Malaysian durians across China.
