The Embassy of Afghanistan in Islamabad has reported that Pakistan has prevented the entry of 300 Afghan trucks loaded with fruits and vegetables. This development followed discussions aimed at resolving trade disputes between an Afghanistan Embassy delegation and representatives from Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the head of foreign trade, Maria Kazi.
These vehicles, laden with perishable goods, are currently held up at key border points including Torkham, Spin Boldak, and Chaman, due to documentation issues with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP). The Afghanistan Embassy has raised concerns over the imposition of additional taxes on these exports, which they believe could adversely affect Afghan producers and the Pakistani market alike.
In response to these challenges, the Embassy is advocating for the provision of temporary permits to facilitate the movement of these goods into Pakistan. This situation underscores the ongoing hurdles in trade facilitation between Afghanistan and Pakistan and highlights the broader implications for regional commerce and diplomacy.
